Virgo New Moon August 25: A cry for social justice and equality

Change means movement. Movement means friction. Only in the frictionless vacuum of a nonexistent abstract world can movement or change occur without that abrasive friction of conflict.Saul Alinsky (1909-72) author and founder of community organizing

The thing that lies at the foundation of positive change, the way I see it, is service to a fellow human being. Lech Walesa (1943- ) Nobel Peace Prize and former Polish leader

"Activation Station" sketch by Joseph Mina
Intensity grows. Transformation abounds. Societal polarity reaches new extremes. Ferguson, Missouri…Ukraine and Russia…Iraq and Syria…Israel and Palestine…China and its neighbors, Ebola virus in West Africa, great drought in California…social unrest in many quarters.. seemingly fill the daily news. Meanwhile, the human voice for social justice and equality grows louder.

These flash points of critical tension point to symptoms of great change and activation now underway around the globe. We stand at the edge of a precipice. Depending on your perspective, one view augurs an Utopian ideal; another perhaps a depressing outcome, and many possibilities in-between. However, the astrological cycles and strong headwinds say "no outcome is certain. No guarantees are available." For better or worse, our evolving human script is being written as it unfolds. Quite a potent backdrop for this Virgo New Moon and its demand for greater, compassionate service to humanity.

Here's the Astro 411.

Where: New Moon at 2° Virgo. Virgo qualities include a focus on your health, precision and discernment, and service to others.

When: August 25th at 4:13 am Hawaii Time (HST); 7:13 am on the US West Coast, 6:13 pm
Universal Time, and on the 26th in Eastern Australia, east to the International Date Line.

Overall Theme: Polarity 101. Bringing to light that which has been suppressed and denied for healing and peaceful resolution.

Significant Players: The meeting of the 16/17's (see chart on right). At this lunation there are 6 planetary members at the 16/17 degree positions. This includes Mercury in Virgo, Venus in Leo,  Mars and Saturn in Scorpio (exact), Chiron in Pisces and Uranus in Aries. That's quite a bit of angular focus amping this lunation. From these headwinds, it seems the next 2 weeks have the potential to be flat out intense. Better to know than not to know; better to be aware than unaware. Fortune favors the prepared.

Energy Forms Created: The 16/17 members create a multitude of aspects. Rather than getting lost in the geometry, suffice to say multiple conversations now prevail on the "right way to proceed". This type of debate requires consensus, however, the players involved, especially Mars and Saturn, rarely see eye-to-eye. In Scorpio, there is a strong impetus to go deep and reveal the darkness. Further, Venus in Leo forms a strong square to this Mars and Saturn combination. This can fuel any conversation with ego and a desire to be right rather than grace and compassion.

Also, Mars and Saturn are exactly conjunct at this New Moon which makes the fixed aspect of Scorpio that much more entrenched. Change will not come easily under this vibration. Near the red star Antares (rival of Mars), the likelihood for conflict increases.

Here's the New Moon chart:

Synopsis: Power struggles underscore this lunation, especially given its fixed nature. The square of Venus in Leo (2) to Mars and Saturn in Scorpio (1) epitomizes the word "intense". Virgo New Moon calls for greater service to humanity, however, consensus requires a very different approach than conventional diplomacy. To me, when in doubt "ask the children". This video underscores that notion:

The Easy: none. Too many conflicting aspects, especially at the 16/17 degree marks.

The Challenging: 16/17's. Personal planetary energies Mercury, Venus and Mars will move on over the next week, making any long-term outcome/solutions more abstract. Outer planetary members Saturn, Chiron and Uranus remain in strong aspect to each other through mid-September. That dynamic points to more struggle in the realm of consensus and cooperation. How much more critical tension can this cauldron take?

Yet, as I have shared in other updates, critical tension raises awareness and fuels change. One recent example occurred in the rather small town of Ferguson, Missouri. There, the fatal shooting by a police officer of an unarmed teenager rapidly exposed a much deeper racial tension found in communities far beyond the borders of this little Missouri town. In the past, similar events and their ultimate resolution would usually remain at the community level. But these are not ordinary times. Social media rapidly elevated this event to a global level, fueling outrage and dissent from people around the world. Social justice and greater transparency about the role of local police (Saturn in Scorpio fuels authority, rules, and trust) have become poignant topics.

Also, renowned comic Robin Williams recent death has brought great scrutiny to the scourge of depression, rapidly elevating the conversation and debate about creating a more compassionate way to help others in a depressed state (Chiron in Pisces).

Concurrently, and seemingly perfect universal timing, technology companies (Apple, Google etc) are now preparing to release devices and applications designed to help people better monitor their body's vital signs. This is a classic example of Uranus in Aries at work (technology and ground breaking advances).

Suggestions for this Virgo Lunation:
- focus on your health and well being
- focus on how you can be of greater service in the world
- embrace change with discernment and clarity
- use the fuel of tension in your life to effect productive change

Reflections:
What is my gift of service to the world? Do I value it?
How can I share this gift in new and innovative ways?
How can I better focus on my health and well being?
How can I better understand and compassionately assist those who struggle with their health?

Conclusion: Yes...these are intense times.

On the same day Robin Williams died, a very dear friend here in Hawaii also transitioned while teaching in Europe. Haleaka Iolani Pule, better known as "Aka", touched the lives of thousands of people here and around the world with her gift of Aloha, great wisdom, amazing musical abilities, and powerful manna.

Commemoration of Aka's life will be held on Sunday morning, September 7 (her 50th birthday) at Kealakekua Bay here in South Kona Hawai'i. Please keep Aka's Ohana (family) in your prayers.

On the global stage...the world's population now grows by 80,000 people every day; 23,000 of whom are Chinese or Indian. That's amazing and equally daunting, especially considering the added pressure placed on environmental and societal systems.

Yet population and global warming stresses continue building in intensity. Once again, Uranus and Pluto now move closer to their next square encounter come December. In play since 2011, Uranus ushers a radically new vibration, literally opening the door to the future; Pluto melts down/transforms all that no longer works in the realms of politics, rules, business, and finances. And this vibration continues well into 2017. Remember, this duo is the very fuel adding intensity to our social world. Change we must.

Needless to say, we are immersed in an extraordinary shift of consciousness. Best strategy is to be remain present and focused on where the energy moves more easily in your life. Remember, you are not alone.

Where in the World is the Starman???: On a personal level, I have been professionally practicing Astrology and Bodywork for over 22 years.  Desert Elephants of Namibia
I am now preparing for a round-the-world trip to commence in early September. Part of this journey is a 2 week landscape photography workshop in Southwest Africa in a land called Namibia. This is a landscape of extreme beauty, vast sand dunes, vivid starry night skies, and unique flora and fauna. I feel so excited. My trip also includes stops in Philadelphia, Cape Town, South India, Sri Lanka and Japan for family and friends, bodywork/astrology, play and more photographic exploration.

This trip also signals a potential major shift for me and my career direction. At this moment, all I can do is observe what seems to be fading in my life and what is growing. All aspects of my life are on the table for consideration, upgrade and possible re-direction.

In the meantime, I remain available for private Life Path astrology consultation sessions (live in Hawaii or by phone or Skype) and bodywork (live in Hawaii) through September 5th, or when I return later in November. If you are experiencing stress, challenges or uncertainty at this stage of your life, a Life Path consultation is a powerful way to help you clarify and re-direct your energy in alignment with your life intention and purpose. Schedule on-line today! Mahalo

Please note, on September 1, my hourly rates for astrology consultations scheduled on or after that date increase to $200 for a 75 minute initial session, and $150 for a follow-up session. This is my 1st rate increase in over 7 years. A session scheduled before September 1 will be at the current rates of $150 and $125.

I place great value in helping people on their life path. I feel honored to serve you in the highest way.
