Solstice and Gemini New Moon June 2012: Transformation 101

"The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out the conservative adopts them."
Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

The ethers are electrified. Something palpable yet undefined grows in the energetic conscious field of potential and budding realities. As the half-way point of 2012 nears, new trends and expressions are emerging in raw, unexpected, novel, and in some cases, harsh ways. Simultaneously, outdated institutions, structures and forms are falling apart. Yes, the first of seven Uranus/Pluto squares has arrived with all its mojo and swagger..

Historically, this combustible pairing has ushered in significant shifts in human behavior, perception and structures around the world. The mid to late 1960's is the most recent example. This current cycle will do likewise, except the cultural shift may prove more intense, transformative and life-altering than its predecessors. Before I get to the details of Uranus/Pluto....

Here's our latest video offering a preview of this month's New Moon dynamics. HD and larger screen format version available here.

Synopsis:
We arrive at the second of the two Gemini New Moons on June 19th (how perfect for the dual nature of Gemini). Just a day prior to the Solstice, intensity and uncharted direction fills this New Moon chart. Tension now builds to support the evolving shift of human consciousness into a more expansive realm of awareness. Behind this surge lies changeable Uranus and transformational Pluto beginning the first of seven direct building squares through 2015. This initiates a potent, uncharted time of radical change, dissolution of old forms and yet to be defined new beginnings.

More information below with specifics about this potent lunation, including annotated chart. We welcome your comments at the end of this update.

The Gemini New Moon arrives on June 19th at 29° Gemini at 5:02 AM in Hawaii, 8:02 on the West Coast, 3:02 pm UT, and just past midnight on the 20th in Japan, east to the International Date Line. Late degree placements carry a stronger intention and vibration. Given the Moon's quirky Gemini influence, as well as the preponderance of all things Gemini over the past 30 days, all bets are off about what this vibration will initiate.

This is the second of two Gemini New Moons. The first Gemini New Moon of 2012 on May 20th was an annular eclipse at 0° Gemini. Whenever two consecutive New or Full Moons occur in the same astrological sign, a change of focus and intention occurs in the subsequent Full or New Moon, respectively.

For example, this New Moon occurs in Gemini. Usually, the next Full Moon will have a Gemini Sun. However, in this case, next Full Moon occurs in early July with the Sun in the sign of Cancer. That means Full Moon energy will precede its New Moon counterpart until the next time two consecutive Full Moons occur in the same sign (August 2013). This pattern switches back and forth every 14 to 20 months.

Further, New Moon intentions naturally seed the Full Moon's energetic expression. However, flipping this orientation creates quite a different dynamic. What is revealed at the Full Moon now becomes the seeding point for your New Moon focus. This switch also helps you bring more depth and direction out of your Full Moon experiences into your New Moon intentions.

As this current Gemini New Moon has no Full Moon counterpart, it offers you instead an opportunity to integrate on a deeper level what has unfolded in your life since the Moon cycle last switched its orientation in October 2010. What has evolved or changed in your life over these past 20 months? What changes require deeper integration in your body and your creative expressions?

Solstice:
This month the Solstice arrives the day after the New Moon. June 20th is the date, unless you live in Europe, east to the International Dateline where the Solstice occurs on the 21st.

Solstice in the northern hemisphere signals a time of ripening/maturing what has been created in the Spring. For the Southern Hemisphere, it is a time of inward expression in anticipation of new life emerging in the coming Spring. Honoring this turnover point through ritual makes you an active participant in the "as above, so below" mysteries of life.

New Moon Chart analysis:
Customarily, New Moon times offer you an opportunity to explore new ground. As described above, this New Moon offers opportunity for integration. Here's the New Moon chart annotated with highlights described in detail found below.

4 strong square pairings occur at this lunation:

(1) Sun/Moon in Gemini square Mars in Virgo
(2) Jupiter in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces
(3) Venus retrograde in Gemini square Chiron in Pisces
(4) Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn

Square dynamics are turning points. The critical tension fueled by this geometry provides the necessary impetus to shift your energy in a different direction.

(1) Mars, archetype of manifestation, aggression and assertiveness, finally returns to its January retrograde point just a few hours after the New Moon. Lessons learned in this retrograde, such as focus on life's details, your health, and how you serve others, are crystallized by its square to the Sun/Moon. Gemini provides a platform for expression, communication, education and networking. The inward structure created during the Mars retrograde can now be expressed to the world in new and spontaneous ways. Now is a great opportunity to share with others what you have discovered over the past 8 months, as well as completions, closures and new beginnings.

(2) Expansive Jupiter entered into Gemini on June 11 marking the beginning of a 12 month journey in the mutable sign of the playful trickster, communicator, and networker. This is a powerful time to gather information and learn more about what inspires and excites you.

For almost the next month Jupiter squares Neptune in Pisces, establishing a theme for its 12 month Gemini journey. Jupiter and Neptune both rule Pisces and Sagittarius. Jupiter represents the more functional, social and expansive aspects of this pairing, where Neptune is transpersonal, vague and much more etheric. Here, Jupiter opens Neptune's dreamworld gates for new concepts, beliefs, ideas influencing the greater collective of humanity. This square provides a basis for moving past outdated belief structures from Neptune's 1857-61 Pisces passage in the realms of religion, spirituality, imagery and relationship to nature.

This is an ideal time for paying attention to your dreams, inspirations, creative urges, and imagery. What do you desire to create in new and imaginative ways?

(3) Venus stations direct on June 27th at 7° Gemini where it continues its square with Chiron in Pisces through mid to late July. Venus in part points to what you value in life and your self-esteem. Chiron underscores the healing point of the chart, an opportunity for releasing the old and inviting in the new.

Venus is now visible in the eastern sky at dawn, close to the horizon near Jupiter. With the Venus/Sun transit now past, a building energy starts to form about what you now value in your life, and how you share those gifts with the greater collective. Further, the square with Chiron opens you to increased sensitivity and compassion for releasing old hurts around childhood playfulness and heart expression. Even if you have done your inner work in this area, there is a genetic association to this vibration that allows deeper patterns to emerge for clearing and integration. In all respects, do not take this challenge personally. It's much bigger than one's individual life.

(4)Uranus square Pluto: As I mentioned at the outset of this update, Uranus and Pluto is the headliner here. This pair are truly the gorillas in the room. They have been engaged in a building energy ever since Uranus moved fully into Aries on March 11, 2011, just 5 hours before the epic earthquake in Japan.

In general, any astrological cycle has 4 major components: conjunction (opening bell), first or building square, opposition, and 2nd or waning square.

This current association represents the first square since the Virgo conjunction of the mid 1960's. As a building square, Uranus and Pluto spawn strong critical tension, which left unchecked can evolve into angst and revolution. The realms of Aries and Capricorn receive this tension, which fuels the hunger and desire for something radically new, while literally demolishing the very structures viewed by some back in the mid-60's as dysfunctional or unhealthy.

There is 1 very close square in July 2011, and 7 direct squares in this series through early 2015. There will be another one this year on September 18; two in 2013 on May 20 and Nov 1, two in 2014 on April 21 and Dec 14, and the last one in 2015 on March 16.

When the energy is ripe, Uranus acts in spontaneous, unexpected ways to effect change. In Aries, this chemistry produces raw, primal desires for something new, literally "throwing the baby out with the bathwater", if that's what it takes.

By contrast, archetypal Pluto melts down old structures. In Capricorn, all matters of business, finance, industry, government and politics are subject to dissolution, as evidenced on and off by potent cultural changes since Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008.

Combine this mix of planetary archetypes and signs and you have an undeniable raw edginess ready to hyper-shift into the next gear. Hence, potent fuel now builds for creating significant global shifts impacting the next 34 years leading up to the 2046 Uranus/Pluto opposition in Virgo and Pisces, respectively.

Virgo points to routine, ritual, health and service. This Uranian/Pluto seeding  back in the mid-60's provided the impetus for a significant world-wide revolution in the areas of social behavior (Uranus' Aquarian vibe), music, and life's time honored rituals and customs, such as religion, social decorum, and politics. 47 years later, its rippling effect continues to be felt in all aspects of life.

For now, suffice it to say significant change in surprising Uranian ways is in the offing for all Capricorn areas described above. Best strategy is to move with the energy as an active participant, rather than resisting it. By contrast, there will be strong surges over the next few years attempting to stabilize what otherwise will ultimately fall apart. In all respects, change will prevail.

In the interim, evolving Neptune in Pisces may show us an alternative path for creating a functional world society, sidestepping, or to some degree, minimizing Uranus/Pluto's intensity. Unlike in cycles past, this Uranus/Pluto occurs on a stage occupied by over 7 billion humans. Nowhere in history can we point to an era where this level of intensity influenced the behavior and actions of such a huge population. Hence, visualizing or dreaming a more fluid and flowing alternative to Uranus/Pluto's potential mayhem could invite more ease and grace (Neptune quality) into this otherwise contentious mix.

Lastly, Saturn stations direct on June 24th at 23° Libra, eventually reaching 0° Scorpio on October 5. Saturn energy now provides the impetus, form and structure to demonstrate and integrate lessons learned over the past 2 and 1/2 years about how to authentically express and share your energy in your intimate relationships.

Next update will focus on the July 3rd Cancer Full Moon. This particular lunation carries its own brand of intensity, including Mars moving into the early degrees of Libra, further activating Uranus/Pluto. Also, Mercury begins its retrograde in Leo during the next lunation.

In the realm of "something new", come mid-July, I am offering a series of four 90 minute webinars in July and August, focusing on the use of the Voyager Tarot cards in relationship to your life, as well as  current events taking place in in the world.

This is a great primer for better understanding yourself and your strengths and areas of growth through the use of these popular oracle cards. E-mail me if you are ready to explore new horizons and opportunities. Each 90 minute session will be $50, or $150 for the complete series of 4 sessions (requires high-speed internet connection).

  2. I love working with the moon phases! Thanks for sharing, and explaining the benefits in more detail. I prefer new moons to full moons, I tend to get over emotional when its full, but feel a lot more motivated when the moon is new.

@psychic readings...short, epsom salt bath (5 to 7 minutes max) is usually quite helpful for anyone who is on the more sensitive side, especially at Full Moon.

@yasmin...yes, this large task which underscores the importance of synergy and serendipity in these extraordinary times.
