Cancer New Moon July 1: Once More in the Shadow

“Every object in the solar system wears a conical shadow pointing away from the Sun. Even the helmeted head of a spacewalking astronaut wears a wizard's cap of darkness one hundred feet long. The solar system is as prickly as a hedgehog with spines of darkness."

We arrive at the Cancer New Moon very late on June 30th in Hawaii and Alaska, and on July 1st for the rest of the world. New Moon time is 10:54 pm in the Hawaiian Islands, 1:54 am on the West Coast, 8:54 am GMT, and 5:54 pm in Japan.

At this New Moon, the slightest grazing of the Moon covers the Sun’s disk off the coast of Antarctica, creating a Partial Solar Eclipse, essentially visible by no one. This is the 1st eclipse of a new eclipse cycle spanning the next 1,200 years. For astrologers, new eclipse cycle = a theme setter=pay attention to details.

As with all eclipses and their association with a shadow element or "spines of darkness", the power of "the hidden" is at play. Here, I see the hidden element in the sign of Gemini, courtesy of Venus and the South Lunar node.

Gemini is the eternal trickster and playful actor who uses communication and deft actions to effect either a shift in the energy, or adapt readily to a rapidly changing landscape. As a initial eclipse, it sets an important theme for how we function as a world society going forward in this millennium particularly in the 4 foundational areas of life:

Resources - Aries
Career - Capricorn
Home - Cancer
Relationship - Libra

This is most evident in the reactivation of the Cardinal Climax configuration in both the Solstice and New Moon charts.

Here’s the New Moon chart

Prominent in the New Moon chart is the very noticeable reenactment of the Cardinal Climax configuration established in the Summer 2010. This similar geometry also appeared in the recent Solstice Chart sans the Moon. Nine days subsequent to the Solstice, the Moon has moved into Cancer to add an emotional focus and intention to this potent configuration.

The on-going maturation of the Cardinal Climax (CC) continues to point to substantial societal changes between 2010 and 2015. Its themes underscore the impermanence of society’s current structures or constructs, as well as the need to refresh or redefine the energy field wherever stagnant energy exists. Yet, as with any significant shift in structure or organizational order, something new eventually emerges to replace the outworn paradigm. Given the impulsive, unpredictable Aries influence in this configuration, that chapter is being written on the fly.

While this energetic influences everyone on some level, most affected by the Cardinal Climax vibration is anyone with any significant planetary aspect in early degrees of Cardinal signs - Aries, Cancer, Capricorn and Libra.

In this latest rendition of the Cardinal Climax (above), the Sun/Moon in Cancer create an intense square with Saturn in Libra (1), while Uranus and Pluto (2) continue to edge closer together toward their closest association (1 degree) this year on July 31st. While the Sun and Moon remain in this CC configuration for only days or hours, respectively, their placement at an eclipsed New Moon serves as a reminder how the coming 6 months or so places a strong spotlight on the nurturing value and direction of relationships in your life.

Uranus and Pluto’s building square was discussed in the recent Solstice Blog. Their current tight association continues through July and into August before it starts to ease up. During this time, pay attention to surprising events in the Capricorn realm of economics, finance, politics and law. These shifts will provide a taste of what to expect when these two potent transformative archetypes create 7 exact squares between June 23, 2012 and March 16, 2015.  Note, the last time these two were in square to each other was 1932-34, a time of great shifts around the World.

The Gemini Card
As I mentioned in the opening paragraphs, a Gemini undertone weaves its way through this eclipse theme of Cardinal change: Venus (1), at 26 degrees Gemini, positions directly opposite the Galactic Center at 26 Sagittarius - the degree position of June’s eclipsed Full Moon, and quite close to the South Lunar Node. Here, Venus serves as the receptor and conveyor of information from the Galaxy, courtesy of the recent Sagittarius Full Moon.

Venus' degree position, especially in similar degree relationship to Mercury at 28 Cancer (2) indicates this galactic information is being communicated through the filter of family and community (Cancer).

The South Lunar Node points to "something from the past". Perhaps we are being reminded by "lessons learned from the past" about how to create healthy communities going forward? More context may be revealed when the Sun moves to Mercury's current position around July 21st, and Venus arrives there on July 27th.

Gemini's are the change-agents of astrology. Current severe weather and geological patterns continue to remind us we are in an accelerated time period of restructuring and reorganizing life on all levels. If there were ever a time to proactively redirect how our communities evolve, function and inter-relate, this is it!

Other aspects in play on this New Moon - these include planetary energies in early degrees of their respective sign:
-Jupiter in Taurus (1) - importance of caring for the Earth and your body; being grounded and solid in how you embrace change.

-Mars in Gemini (2) - in square to Chiron, and by association Neptune (3), indicates a deeper healing occurring around sensitivities and playfulness.

- Uranus moves retrograde for 5 months, beginning July 9th. Typically, a Uranus retrograde intensifies quick changing energy, producing sudden outburst. One example would be extreme wild fires now reported from various parts of the world. Last year, Uranus retrograded around the same time. Remember the outburst that occurred then at Health Care Town Hall meetings?

Eyes On The Sky

Quick moving Mercury is now coming out of the Sun's glare. On July 2nd, about 30 minutes after sunset, it will be to the upper right of the Crescent Moon near the horizon.Mercury's appearance in the western sky signals "Mercury Retrograde" is coming in about a month.

Meanwhile, brilliant Jupiter rises higher in the predawn sky, while Venus appears to sink towards the Sun. Venus' departure from the morning sky signals the beginning of her underworld passage, and ultimate reappearance in the Western Sky 6 weeks later. In the underworld, she surrenders her archetypal gifts received during her morning sky passage; slowly reclaiming them after she appears in the Western sky come September.

Conclusion:
Reorganization by Joseph Mina
It’s been quite an energetic month of eclipse driven spontaneous twists and turns. Yet, this "eclipse trifecta" has been merely a theme indicator for potent events to come between now and 2015. This includes financial turbulence, strong weather and geological related patterns, social unrest and significant shifts, and technological breakthroughs.

While the current picture may look rather bleak to some, there lies a playful, spontaneous Gemini influence inherent to the 3 eclipses of June, pointing to unexpected shifts, or at the very least, a different way to solve or adapt to the significant social, financial and political restructuring of these times.

To my astrological eyes, we are now in a cosmic hallway of sorts; witnessing old doors rapidly closing, while looking ahead at new doors yet to open. Events of July thru September will prove to be quite telling about how these potent transformative waves are moving. The power of positive thought, intention and action on subtle and not so subtle levels can be a strong motivator for creating a more self-sustainable and healthier world community. The power lies within us. With Jupiter in Taurus, access to this inner strength lies in the physical body.

Over the next two weeks, the Cardinal Climax continues building as Venus enters this configuration for a short time, while the Sun moves toward later degrees of Cancer. Best strategy during this period is to remain present, fully grounded and internal. It’s a great time to be nurtured via body care, enjoy meaningful time with family and friends, and deepen your connection to the Earth.
