Astrology October 2013: Intensity and Change

The season of change is upon us. The change of weather, turning of the leaves and even the page of the calendar remind us of life's inevitable march through time. Yet seasonal change is but one small aspect of the greater cycle of change now taking place. "Unprecedented" is one word that readily comes to mind.

Accelerated change is not for the faint of heart. Planetary cycles over the past 5 years have moved the growth needle to the high end of the intensity scale. As 2014 looms on the horizon, the energetic door for October may prove to be a strong catalyst for the coming 18 months. It's during that time Uranus/Pluto will reach the culmination of its intensity.  Yes, the world is changing in profound ways, an effect that will ripple through the sea of consciousness for decades to come.

The  October Astrology features a New Moon in Libra, Full Moon in Aries, Mercury Retrograde starting on October 21 and plenty of action with the personal planets.

October begins with Sun in tight aspect to Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. Over the next year, every 10 days after the Equinox or Solstice, the Sun brings added intensity and
emphasis to this epic Uranus Pluto dynamic. Time for "turning a corner" is emphasized for making radical change.

First week of October, Venus moves away from Saturn while Mercury joins it.  Early October is a time to communicate yourself from your inner authority. There is an opportunity to connect to a place of deep emotional strength. Contemplate what are efficient ways to share resources and create commerce. As Saturn lingers on the north nodal point, and Mercury passes it three times, this month is an opportunity to command your destiny.

Here are the other significant benchmarks for this month: 

October 4 New Moon at 11° Libra

 New Moon Chart:

New Moon times are generally a time of reflection; an opportunity to start over or begin something new. This Libra New Moon is directly aligned with the Uranus Pluto square. This potent line up suggests new ways of asserting individuality as well as reorganizing power in relationships. Speaking of relationships, the love planets Mars and Venus are in close square relationship thru Oct 7.  Be mindful and compassionate with your loved ones, as things may feel a little rough around the edges.

Helpful inner reflection questions during this lunation: How can I create a more connected relationship with those close to me? How can I use the transformative fuel of Uranus and Pluto to effect positive change in my life? What does my inner masculine and feminine want me to know? How can I create more harmony and connection between these parts of me? 

Oct 6 and 7 Moon meets Mercury and Saturn:  Express yourself and be mindful of emotional intensity and sensitivity. 

Oct 11 Moon meets Pluto: whenever the Moon comes into direct aspect with Pluto, emotions move to greater depths, and sometimes eruptions. Be mindful this day to be more contemplative and reflect on how you want to express your true power in this rapidly evolving world. 

Oct 17 Moon meets Uranus in Aries: expect emotional surprises this day. New beginnings seemingly offer promise and unexpected twists and turns. However, the square to Pluto implies the potential for deception and intensity. Know what you are looking at...be clear and specific. 

Oct 18 Full Moon (Penumbral Lunar Eclipse) at 25 Aries

This is the 1st of 2 consecutive eclipses...this one a penumbral lunar eclipse. This eclipse will exhibit a very slight shading of the lunar disk as the Moon transits the outer shadow of the Earth, remaining outside the darker Umbra. 

Here's the Full Moon chart: 

Eclipses, such as this series, either come in pairs or as three consecutive events. In early November the 2nd of the pair occurs as a hybrid solar eclipse (part Total, part Annular) over the Atlantic, central Africa and the Indian Ocean as the New Moon positions in Scorpio near the Lunar North Node and Saturn. The energetic of this Aries Lunar eclipse will set the stage for a solar shading over the heart of Africa in early November. What dark Scorpionic secrets will the Moon's shadow reveal, especially in a Mercury Retrograde (see below)???

Themes for setting your eclipsed lunar intention include individuality (Aries) and creative expression (Libra). As the Aries Moon and Libra Sun square off to Jupiter in Cancer, the ethers are ripe for reassessing your needs of individuality (Aries), relationship (Libra) and family (Cancer). The eclipse vibration makes this an "inner journey".

Helpful questions in alignment with this vibration include: how well do you balance your priorities? Do you find adequate space simply to be and breathe? Are you attentive and understanding to those in close relationship to you? Do you spend quality time with other family members? Do you feel nurtured by the experience? If not, what needs to change to raise the energy to a more nurturing state? 

Also, Mars opposes Neptune this lunar eclipse day. As Mars rules Aries, added emphasis is given to this lunar eclipse. Whenever Mars/Neptune are in opposing aspect, assertive Mars turns much more passive due to Neptune's pervasive fog like nature. Rather than push ahead, use this time to assess whether your assertive actions in life are congruent with your greater vision for how you want to share your gifts with others. Make adjustments accordingly.

Scorpio Mercury Retrograde begins October 21 

October 21 through November 10, 2013  (within 18° to 2° Scorpio)  For all the fixed sign people, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, this retrograde is especially potent for you as Mercury moves over Saturn and the north nodal point 3 times within a month.  This Mercury moving over Saturn suggests:

- Take your communication seriously. Reveal yourself emotionally. Be patient with yourself.  There is no need to be so hard on yourself. Take yourself off the hook for anyway in the past you have been judgmental about your feelings or emotions.

Are you taking care of business? Reorganize your relationship to your commerce and communications.  Are you in charge of your emotional expression?  Align with your inner authority to be mindful and efficient with your words. Be patient with your communications. This may be a time to dive deep emotionally and reflect on the past.  Release all the ways in the past the inner critic brings you down, be compassionate with your thought process and speak softly to yourself! 

And as always...spontaneity is your guide during a Mercury Retrograde. While the logical world may seem confusing and uncooperative to your intended plans, "go with the flow" and "making opportunities out of unexpected change" are effective and productive strategies.

Remember too, Scorpio vibration points to "shared resources". Hence, in this Mercury Retrograde, be very clear about your agreements with others. If you are negotiating an agreement or signing a contract, wait until after the retrograde (mid-November) to finalize details. And if you intend to marry, choose a time other than Mercury Retrograde. Otherwise, communication challenges usually interweave into the relationship dynamics. 

Conclusion: "We are the answer to our prayers". For those who choose to walk the "way less traveled", life blesses us with unexpected energy rich experiences in the present moment. While looking further ahead may seem alluring, being fully present to the current planetary intensity will prove more grounding and integrative to you and your body.

Also, consciously aligning and working with these cycles is paramount to using their fuel to effect productive change in society. Each of us is an important part to this process. We are literally painting on a blank canvas what we want to manifest and create in individual, social and generational spheres. How will you choose to create in the coming months? What is ready to change within you to heighten your participation in this on-going paradigm shift?
