Authors note: I am writing this on a Cancer Moon day, after witnessing crescent Moon, Mars and Jupiter near my favorite constellation Orion in the sky early this morning. Cancer themes are activated and expanded here in the area of home, family, women and nurturing the creative impulse.

So, is everyone breathing now that July is over?  With so many planets in water signs, emotions have been super intense, especially the last 2 weeks of July.  Mars and Jupiter are just now separating and by early August this epic water trine formation breaks apart. The grand water trine includes Neptune in its home sign of Pisces, Saturn slowly moving through Scorpio, and Jupiter and Mars in Cancer. In August, Jupiter continues its alignment with the ever powerful cardinal activating agents, the Uranus Pluto Square.

The Cardinal signs are the signs that begin a season. They are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Since Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto are all in Cardinal signs, this is symbolic of initiating empowered change. While we have discussed here in previous posts, the Uranus and Pluto square relationship though 2015, Mars and Jupiter now in Cancer further activate and amplify this

turning point. Next year, in April and May 2014, a Mars retrograde in Libra adds to the cardinal conversation with Uranus and Pluto. Notice what is happening in your life now as a seeding point of activation that may resurface again early next year. For now, it is important to know Jupiter remains as an expansive force for change in the sign of Cancer through August, September and early 2014.

Here's the Leo New Moon Chart highlighting in red this Cardinal T-Square:

August Astrology
What are you birthing = New Moon in Leo, August 6
What are you nurturing = Jupiter in Cancer, through June 2014
What are you offering the world = Full Moon in Aquarius August 20th

The cover of this week's Time magazine features an article called “The Child Free Life, When having it all means not having children”.  This topic is interesting to me as an astrologer as we approach a New Moon in Leo, and as a woman who has very consciously chosen not to have children approaching age 40.

This debate permeating the collective consciousness now interests me in light of the larger planet patterns. Remember:
Jupiter in Cancer = Family issues
opposite Pluto in Capricorn = meltdown of traditions, and formal society structures
squaring off to Uranus in Aries = an individuated attitude of, I’ll do it my way!

I admit I haven’t read the Time article yet, but I was drawn to an on-line review by the Yahoo Shine Staff who was triggered by the topic itself. One of the writers, who is also a mother, observed her reaction to people who choose not to have children as somehow selfish and narcissistic. She further explores that In a way, in our culture, being a "real mom" is equated with being a "real woman."  Lauren Sandler from Time states "It is recent in human history to say being a mother is not for me. What does it mean for the future? She further explores the topic, "What is an adult woman if she doesn’t become a mother, it is something (as a culture) we have not come to terms with yet."

This is all great fuel for New Moon in Leo material on creativity followed by Aquarius Full Moon, illuminating service to humanity! Please leave your comments below at the end of this update.

Her interview includes dialogue on the choice to have children or not as living life on your own terms (see link below).

August 6 Leo New Moon, Procreation = PRO creation.
New Moon this month is at 14 Leo on August 6th,  2:50 PM PDT
Leo relates to children, procreation, being child like, and expressing yourself through heartfelt creativity. Set an intention for personal procreation, recreation and creativity this month. Recreate yourself! Questions for contemplation:

What is your legacy, what will you leave behind?
How are you shining the light of your heart?
How are you expressing your creativity?

Here at the creativity department of Gemini Awakening check out recent creative contributions from Kathryn and Joseph:

Enter the world of Hawaii's spinner dolphins, enjoying their creative playtime in the nearby South Kona bays. Leo energy embraces children. In the beginning of this video you'll see a baby dolphin just 2 days old swimming close to its Mom.

Video created by Joseph using his GoPro camera and many video editing skills.

During the past three months I have created several new collages called the Galactic Goddess series. Interestingly, the themes throughout include winged women, birds and eggs (see these creations at top and below). I am also incubating an astrological writing project on the planetary patterns. Something new is being born, so stay tuned.

The World of Leo:
Leo out of balance is sometimes viewed as selfish, by putting oneself in the spotlight. However, healthy Leo is generous and shows natural leadership. At this Leo New Moon, I invite you to explore all things creative and live life to the fullest. Let’s play!

Leo the Lion is king of the animal kingdom. Leo expresses natural leadership from the heart. At this Leo New Moon consider your relationship to children, animals and your creative expression. Consciously play with multiple ideas of being creative. Do you reproduce the plants in your garden, enjoy playing music or creating art? How you create yourself over and over again is a theme for Leo New Moon!

Go play, recreation = re-creation.
Procreate = FOR life! Enjoy yourself.

In other news, here at our Hawaii fruit farm, a lone hen has decided to make a nest in one of our garden beds. She arrived sometime in May and offered us an egg almost every other day for a month. Like a hologram, she is reproducing herself! I have named her Henrietta.

August 20 Aquarius Full Moon
The Full Moon this month is at 28
° Aquarius, August 20th, 6:44 PM PDT. This is the second Aquarius Full Moon this year. This Aquarius Full Moon is born from the seed of the Leo New Moon two weeks earlier.

Full Moon Chart:

Here are questions for contemplation to shine your light this Aquarius Full Moon:

What can I contribute to elevate humanity?
How can my individual creative expression serve the collective?
Who are my friends and playmates?
Am I associating with people who are of similar vibration or higher?*
Raise your thoughts, thoughts direct energy.*

  1. Nice post Kathryn; as a fellow stargazer as well as an Astrology follower, I loved your poem.

Of particular note was your referencing the Spring retrograde Mars reactivating the seeds of change being sown now. Carry on!

  2. Kathryn,
I love your galactic goddess collages. They are beautiful and they inspire me to be creative. I am focused on the image of a seed. Eggs, emergence. The dolphin video was a special treat. Thank you so much for this post.
