Cancer New Moon July 2012: Reorganization 101

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."  Franklin Deleno Roosevelt

Cancer New Moon arrives late on the 18th (6:25 pm in Hawaii, 9:25 pm on the West Coast, and on the 19th after midnight on the East Coast United States, east to the International Date Line). The sign of Cancer, ruled by the Moon, points to our internal, emotional connection to our home, family, community and our private lives.

Following the lead of the Capricorn Full Moon earlier this month, we are now encouraged to forge a more compassionate societal structure, benefiting everyone. A tall order in these polarized times.

In some cases, this literally means the existing social structure must collapse (Pluto), or at least reorganize, so a more updated version (Uranus) can unfold. This tension pattern will continue to be a strong theme builder through 2015.

Overall, the evolving planetary patterns since Full Moon early this month remain in a building state of unease. This energy is similar to the critical moments leading up to a huge sneeze. On the planetary front, Uranus and Pluto are dialed into a very tight square (challenge) over the next 2 months. Expect a raw, edgy, contentious energy pattern through
September. This is already evident on the political and financial fronts around the world. As I have shared in other updates, physical exercise and nurturing your body through diet, rest and bodywork keeps this energy flowing; otherwise stagnation can easily set-in.

On the external, the Sun has been highly active the past two weeks. Its strong solar flares are usually prime contributors to extreme weather and sometimes geophysical changes. As the solar wind stretches the Earth's magnetosphere, jet stream currents are redirected fueling intense weather patterns. You can follow what's going on beyond the Earth at Space Weather.com.

Meanwhile, on this day before the New Moon, the Moon sits in early degrees Cancer creating a Cardinal sign Grand Cross for today with Mars, Uranus and Pluto. Grand Cross???? Looks like this:

While this is just a passing moment due to the Moon's rapid motion, these occurrences remind us of the critical tension being added each day to the energy field. To better understand this particular energy pattern, think of the 4 foundational corners of a structure:

- 1st corner:  Moon in Cancer represents the emotional or water element. There is a heightened sensitivity here, however, in a highly charged and polarized field, this element is far from relaxed.

- 2nd corner: Uranus in Aries covers the fire element. Uranus, by its planetary nature, demonstrates it can radically shift the energy field at any given moment without notice - so much for stability.

- 3rd corner: Pluto in Capricorn represents the Earth element. Since 2008, when Pluto first entered Capricorn, this foundation point has been teetering, ready to implode and transform

- 4th corner: Mars in Libra holds the mental element . By its Libran nature, Mars attempts to keep the other 3 pillars intact, regardless of what it takes. Its fiery mental state (Mars rules Aries) is an awkward fit at best in subdued Libra.

Put the 4 pieces together and you have a very unstable structure in a high state of flux. Add the current Mercury Retrograde to the mix, and honestly, I have no idea how, when or under what circumstances this pattern will further shift its frequency. What I do know...this edginess will continue building over the next 3 years, similar to waves in the ocean arriving in sets. This day's Grand Cross serves as a vivid reminder about what is diminishing, transforming or recreating itself thru 2015.

Ultimately, you will learn a lot about your soul depth, willingness to embrace change, and ability to exchange yourself for a higher vibrational version of you. I must add, a higher vibrational self requires a stronger foundation, otherwise this heightened frequency will not anchor and integrate easily, if at all, in your physical form.

Here's the New Moon Chart set for Hawaii Standard Time

Celestial patterns reoccur with intention. These themes are life's change agents on personal, social and generational levels. Vibrations and frequencies of this nature ensure one way or the other life's continued evolution. At this New Moon we are once again reminded to embrace change and radical new directions in all areas of life.

Franklin Deleno Roosevelt's words above were spoken at his 2nd Inaugural Address in early 1937 in response to the rippling, societal upheaval from Uranus/Pluto square of 1932-34 in Aries and Cancer, respectively...an era dubbed "The Great Depression". At that time Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Cancer hovered near (Pluto) or was in square (Uranus) to the degree mark of this current New Moon (27°).

75 years later, another turn of the astrological wheel returns us to the very energy of the 1930's. Yet, we return with a vastly different creative tool set then existed in the 30's. Today, our world has become highly interactive in the now moment, especially in the technological realm. In the more esoteric realm, human kind appears to be merging its internal energies together in ways not easily rationalized or understood. Perhaps the synaptic pathways of the brain are now aligning and attuning internally and externally across society? Peter Russell predicted as much back in the 1980's when he first spoke about the Global Brain.

What new gifts are you ready to share with those around you and the greater world community? How do you want to be of creative service to others going forward?

Today's New Moon has important planetary trend indicators, providing clues about where this energy wants to naturally move and how you can flow with it. The theme here points to new pursuits, creative bursts of inspiration, new routines, new friends and social groups, and a new way of inter-connecting and relating with fellow humans and life. This and other New and Full Moon cycles are explored in greater detail in our astrological series "Manifesting By the Light of the Moon", available as a digital eBook and/or companion audio.

Significant aspects at this New Moon underlying this awareness which were covered in part during our last update in early July include:

Mars in Libra oppose Uranus in Aries and square Pluto in Capricorn (image at left) - Mars in Libra points to a new initiative in the realm of relationships. In a tense configuration, sets a realignment theme for how you create, maintain, expand or diminish relationships in your life through September. This is now on the front burner of "what's up". This topic was covered in greater depth in our last Full Moon update.

Sun/Moon in Cancer square Saturn in Libra. Continuing the Mars theme above, structured Saturn is nearing the end of its almost 3 year transit through Libra. By early October it will move into the life force realm of Scorpio.

This last transit through Libra brings to the surface many questions about how relationships work or don't work for you. What have been the lessons learned? How have you restructured your relationships over the past 30 months? Sun/Moon in Cancer reminds you the importance of creating nurturing connections with others without sacrificing your integrity. Do you align with others in ways that serve your life purpose and intention, while honoring their life path?

Jupiter/Ceres in Gemini square Chiron/Neptune in Pisces (at right). Gemini fuel is unpredictable, quick changing, and sometimes volatile. The Gemini surge initiated at the Annular Solar Eclipse in May reminds us to be adept and quick when moving with life's spontaneous changes. The Pisces connection brings a more empathic, global association to these shifts.

Note: For those with early degree placements in the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, this cycle can prove to be a very confusing, ungrounded time for you as you seek out new ways of moving your energy and reorganizing yourself. Grounding exercises, and a "go with the flow" mentality can be your saving grace during the next 2 years.

Mercury Retrograde in Leo - commencing 4 days before New Moon, Mercury will transit backwards in Leo, arriving at 1 degree Leo on August 7th. Its eventual return to its retrograde start point comes at the end of August.

Archetypal Mercury, ruler of Gemini and Virgo, invites you during this retrograde to:
- explore your creative, heart impulses
- attune your energy with new pursuits
- move with the flow and embrace spontaneous change
- look back at past experiences of the heart, learning new ways (perhaps missed the first time around) to express your deepest desires and heart passion

In a 60° favorable sextile with Mars in Libra and Venus in Gemini, this retrograde period represents prime time opportunity for opening your heart to new possibilities and alliances on an internal and external level. Explore options as they appear!

Looking ahead: The day after this New Moon, the Moon energy shifts into heart driven Leo, creating a conjunction (direct connection) with Mercury Retrograde at 11 degrees Leo. The next Full Moon on August 1 positions essentially on this 11 degree axis. Stay tuned for our next update which explores this dynamic as well as Venus' ingress into nurturing Cancer.
