Taurus New Moon - the Earth responds

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.... Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." Helen Keller (1880 - 1968) Blind and Deaf Educator

"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem more afraid of life than death." James F. Byrnes (1879 - 1972) US Judge and Politician

We arrive at the New Moon point on May 13th at 3:06 pm Hawaiian Standard time (6:06 pm on the West Coast; 9:06 pm in the East. 1:06 am Greenwich Mean Time on the 14th and here in Japan 10:06 am on the 14th - this time change thing sure has my head spinning at times; i.e. am I in tomorrow or today???

The theme for this lunation shines the spotlight on stability versus change, and ways to navigate from one reality to another.

What values (Taurus) are important to you as you ponder your place in the rapidly evolving shifts now taking place across the planet? How do you preserve your individuated sense of self while joining others in actualizing a more nurturing, sustainable reality? How do we preserve the natural world in a time of significant change?
Here's the New Moon chart:

The vibration of Taurus focuses on what you value in life. It mirrors Earth energies and reflects beauty, artistry, the joy of eating, stability and the sensual body. Appropriately, Earth Day is on April 20th, which is the day the Sun moves into the sign of Taurus.

This particular New Moon activates a number of conflicting energies, which may make working with the dynamics a bit tricky. Let's look at the planetary aspects:

By itself, Sun/Moon at 23 Taurus seeds desires for a more sensual experience with life. As this placement is in the higher vibrational aspect of Taurus (greater than 20 degrees), a deeper connection to Earth energies is offered. As Mercury at 3 Taurus is now moving direct (more on that later), the interval between now and June 5th, when Mercury crosses the New Moon point at 23 Taurus provides a window to explore new ways of attuning with your local, natural environment. Are you moving toward sustainability, or assume adequate earth resources will be available in the coming years?

In easy aspect to this New Moon pairing (1) is the opposition of Uranus/Jupiter in Pisces (2) to Saturn in Virgo (4). Saturn/Uranus dynamic fuels the tension of stability versus change - round 4 of 5.  This includes a Sun/Moon sextile or 6o degree angle (3) to Uranus/Jupiter, and a trine or 120 degree angle (5) to Saturn.

This geometry provides a beneficial dose of  Earth energy. From a more grounded place,  energy appears to be available for navigating the shifts/changes now taking place from what has been familiar (Saturn) to an evolving new world (Uranus). This includes creating a more grounded action plan for utilizing/acquiring sufficient resources for surfing these intense waves of change sweeping the globe. Optimistic Jupiter raises hopes we can overcome any obstacle as we let go of the old and embrace the new.

However, these type of dynamics are not so cut and dry in this lunation.

Contrasting the beneficial New Moon vibration just described, Venus in Gemini (3) creates a square to the same Saturn (1)/Uranus (2) opposition.

Gemini is the playful trickster; the one who changes the vibration just when everything seems set. The evolving path may contain challenging surprises. Also, Venus sextiles Mars in Leo. Change comes from shifts of the heart.

Make sure you add an element of flexibility into any future plans you are devising. We are treading new ground here. The rules of engagement and creativity are changing ever so rapidly.Let your life passion be your guide.

Another challenging dynamic to consider is the square between the Sun/Moon (1) and Mars in Leo (2). Mars is soon (5/17) to emerge from its rather long retrograde shadow begun last October.

Mars last traversed its current ground around December 20th of last year. What have you discovered over the past 5 months about your heart passion? Does your passion for life help create sustainability? What changes are you being encouraged to make based on how life appears to you?

Taurus looks to establish a sense of value and sustainability on the planet. Mars in Leo looks to establish the power of one's uniqueness. Can we follow our heart passion (Leo) and also preserve/strengthen our environment? Significant world environmental events over the past few weeks would suggest otherwise. Only time will reveal the answer.

Mercury dynamics at New Moon:

The last significant aspect of this New Moon includes a favorable sextile (3), trine (5) between Mercury in Taurus (1), Chiron in Pisces (2) and Pluto/Ceres in Capricorn (4). Mercury rules communication. In this instance, we are reminded sufficient information is available to assist in restructuring society (Pluto in Capricorn). The trine indicates we have to be proactive to effect positive change. The Chiron sextile indicates the ground is ripe for deepening our spiritual connection to life on Planet Earth.

The just completed Mercury retrograde was nothing short of intense, thanks to Planet Earth events.

Grounded flights throughout Europe due to volcanic ash in Iceland, intense spring storms sweeping across the northern hemisphere, and at a depth of a mile, a significant amount of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from an off-shore oil rig explosion are some of the more significant Earth reality triggers occurring over the past 3 weeks.

A retrograde in an Earth sign, and especially Taurus, usually augurs significant Earth changes affecting the human race. While the aforementioned Earth events created enormous inconvenience for people, we are reminded how the natural world's fragile balance can quickly alter how we exist on Planet Earth and the quality of life we follow.

Conclusion

This New Moon underscores the importance of reevaluating our relationship to the Planet and how we manage and use its resources. This past week the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP) released a compelling environmental report on Planet Earth's eco-systems. In short, the report indicates the Earth is approaching an irreversible environmental tipping point. Around the same time, Al Gore weighed-in too, looking at the recent Gulf Oil spill and other environmental issues remaining unresolved.

The critical tension between maintaining the status quo (Saturn) versus embracing signficant changes (Uranus) is acutely focused on Planet Earth and our relationship to this blue pearl of the solar system. May this Taurus New Moon crystallize and clarify the essential choices for creating greater harmony and attunement with our home planet.
