Libra New Moon October 2012: Relationship Reboot

"The quality of your life mirrors the quality of your relationships."

"Today we are faced with the preeminent fact that, if civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships...the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world, at peace.

Four times a year, the interactive dance of the Sun and Moon point their cosmic spotlight on the realm of relationships. And here we are again. At this Libra New Moon, opportunity is offered for resetting the balance of all significant relationships in your life. Right on cue, Saturn's recent completion of its 30 month journey through Libra becomes your inner benchmark at this lunation for relationship lessons learned in this essential area of human life.

New Moon occurs on October 15 at 2:03 am in Hawaii, 5:03 on the US West Coast, 12:03 pm GMT, and on the 16th from New Zealand east to the International dateline.

New Moon periods are akin to rebooting a computer. Everything gets refreshed. At 22°, this Sun/Moon positions at essentially the same degree location where Saturn completed its recent retrograde cycle this past June in Libra. Hence, the essence of Saturn lessons you have
learned in the realm of relationship since 2009 (control, confinement, organization, authority) is strongly imbued in this lunation's theme. How have your various relationships changed or been restructured over the past 30 months?

Kathryn and I provide an overview of this lunation in our latest Gemini Astrology video.

Here's the New Moon chart:

Significant to this lunation:

New Moon, Venus, Mars and Mercury influences: This New Moon is considered "unaspected", as it makes no connection to any other planetary energy. Hence, added emphasis is given to this Moon's Libra focus (1).

Libra is the standard bearer for partnerships and relationships. As an air sign, Libra seeks balance, harmony and union through its interactions with others.

Ruled by Venus, Libra embodies the essence of art, beauty, refinement, justice, and co-creativity. Further, "Libra New Moon serves as a reminder for diplomacy and harmony. Gather your art supplies, and refine and reinvigorate your creative channels through human interaction." This excerpt is from Gemini Awakening's very own eBook, Manifesting by the Light of the Moon, A Journey Through the Zodiac (Available to order for only $6.99/ $11.99 includes companion audio via download).

As Venus rules this lunation, its position at 14 Virgo in square to Jupiter in Gemini gets added attention. Venus' interaction with Jupiter literally puts the reins on Jupiter's otherwise expansive, changeable vibe, creating greater focus/direction (Virgo)  for you to address/access deeper emotional issues wanting resolution. Further, Mercury rules Virgo and Gemini. So support exists for communication/expression of emotions in a specific way.  As Mercury transits Scorpio (3) at this New Moon, deeper expression of fears, doubts and hesitancy can quickly come bubbling to the surface. The coming Mercury Retrograde beginning on Election Day, November 6 will accentuate this theme well into December.

Mars at 5 Sagittarius creates a square (1, at left) with Chiron in Pisces and a trine (2, at left) with Uranus in Aries.

Mars energy in any fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) can be restless, courageous and sometimes easily agitated if things don't happen fast enough. It is quite the initiator for action. The healing force of Chiron moves inward with a sense of purpose to uncover and resolve that which has been wounded. Quite a contrast between these two at the New Moon. Since this square dynamic is hard-wired into the New Moon script, this restlessness will be in play throughout this lunar cycle. One way to work with this inner restlessness is to physically exercise. Use the fuel to build the critical tension necessary for resolution and healing.

The trine with Uranus is best exemplified by the record breaking sky diving exploits of Felix Baumgartner, who became the 1st human to break the sound barrier when sky diving. He jumped from a height of 128,000 feet (40,000 meters). "Bold, courageous and determined" mark Mars' qualities in the sign of the archer. How appropriate to reveal this archetypal energy today.

Also, this event occurred on the 65th anniversary of Chuck Yeger's epic, heroic breaking of the sound barrier in a jet airplane back in 1947. Felix's accomplishment is a classic example of how Mars and Uranus can work together in a productive way: courageously breaking long-standing barriers to set the bar for a new wave of consciousness on planet Earth.

Saturn's influence over the past 2 1/2 years: Saturn retrograde periods are very introspective, providing fertile ground for examining how you create structure and order in your life. In the realm of Libra, Saturn lessons have been about the form and quality of your relationships. Saturn periods provide you a way to look back at "what was" to form a different basis for what will be. In Libra, Saturn retrograde cycle can create either an upgrade/improvement or breakup/ending of relationships in your life, especially if your natal chart has been activated by the transit. The most recent Saturn retrograde was between this past February and June.

Saturn Present time: on October 5th, Saturn (2) entered into Scorpio. Saturn last was in Scorpio in 1982-85. Now, Saturn journeys through this intense sign through 2014, and for a few months later in 2015. We will discuss more about Saturn's Scorpio journey over the coming months. Suffice it to say, anytime an outer planetary energy transits into a new sign, significant shifts happen in the world consciousness, especially in the early stages of the transit.

For now, remember Scorpio is the embodiment of "life force". It's the energetic juice that connects us. It's where we share resources with others in the most intimate ways. At this Libra New Moon, it positions at the very beginning degrees of Scorpio, reminding you how you share resources within your intimate relationships will be a hot topic for you during its Scorpio journey. This is particularly true for anyone with strong planetary aspects in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Equally, this will be a strong theme on the world stage, as nations attempt to recover from financial challenges triggered by Pluto's 2008 entry into the Capricorn world of finances, commerce, rules, laws and politics. Will nations decide to cooperate with each other to create greater world harmony and balance, or insulate themselves from each other. Only time will tell.

Other Factors: Rounding out this lunation, Uranus and Pluto are slowly easing up after an intense 3 month period, although they remain close enough together to continue sparking the consciousness with unsettling intensity. As we have previously posted, this dance continues into 2015.

Lastly, a grand water trine including Saturn, Ceres in Cancer, and Chiron/Neptune in Pisces formed on October 5th when Saturn moved into Scorpio. This geometry continues through early December. Grand water trines usher in a period of "heightened sensitivity". Since Saturn is an important component of this grand trine, that sensitivity points to Saturn in Scorpio theme covered above. This includes your inner sensitivity about whether or not any alliance "feels" mutually supportive/trustful in your life and the direction you choose to pursue.

Conclusion: Compared to previous intense lunations over the past few months, this one is rather mild. However, the building Scorpio dynamics courtesy of Saturn and Mercury point to a much more introspective time over the coming months. In November, Mercury moves retrograde for 3 weeks. Also, 2 eclipses, one a total solar and the other a partial lunar, further deepen this introspective movement. Yes, inward times can be challenging/confusing if you are inclined to be in an achievement/yang flow. Yet, the astrological currents will create strong headwinds later in November to encourage this more introspective look at how you structure your life in relationship with others, especially in the area of shared resources.
