Neptune in Pisces and Leo Full Moon Feb 7: I See You

"...there is a moving palace that floats in the air
with balconies and clear water flowing through,
infinity everywhere, yet contained under a single tent."
excerpt from Rumi's "Moving Water"

"The beauty of the heart is the lasting beauty:
its lips give to drink of the water of life....that oneness you can't know
by reasoning." excerpt from Rumi's "The Beauty of the Heart".

"Mysterious", "nebulous", "the Oneness", "feeling my way", "dreaming the dream", and many more similar expressions underscore a significant turning of the page at this Full Moon lunation, one that guides us into the realm of the unknown...the eternal fog...the bigger vision. Time for a reality check, you are about to embark on a 15 year journey into Pisces land, the sea of everything.

The Leo Full Moon on February 7/8th shines its fiery, illuminative light on this Piscean water realm, and in turn, its potent ruler Neptune. How appropriate we begin this journey into the realm of "the All" with the blazing heart of Leo lighting the way.

Leo Full Moon occurs on the 7th at 11:54 am in Hawaii, 1:54 p on the West Coast, 9:54 p GMT, and on the 8th from the Middle East, (AST) east to the International
Date Line. The Full Moon positions at almost 19° Leo opposite the Sun and communicative Mercury at 19° Aquarius.

Here's the Full Moon Chart

Archetypal Leo represents the expression of the heart. Leo types give so they may receive in an unending flow and exchange of love. Leo thrives being at the center of the circle, e.g. most movie stars have strong planetary aspects in Leo. The passionate expression of Leo is magnetically captivating, courageous, creative, romantic and full of life. By contrast, its shadow element is driven by ego, intolerance, dogmatism, narcissism, and a hunger for power.

Significant Planetary Aspects for this Leo Full Moon lunation:
1. Sextile (60°) between Jupiter in Taurus and Chiron/Neptune in Pisces
2. Quincunx angle (150°) between Mercury /Sun in Aquarius  and Mars in Virgo.
3. Quincunx angle between Venus in Pisces and Saturn in Libra.

Sextile energy = strongly aligned; favorable or beneficial.

Quincunx energy, combines 2 non-mixable elements in a paradoxical fashion. The first quincunx pairing above combines Air and Earth; the 2nd one combines Water and Air.

Paradox seems quite fitting when the conversation involves the inter-workings of a fire Moon and watery Neptune. The recently released movie The Actor, nominated for 9 Academy Awards, is a fine example of fiery Leo (lead character's role) and watery Pisces (a dynamic music score bringing to life an otherwise mostly silent film).

In the first quincunx above, Mercury, positioned at the same degree as the Sun, becomes lost in the Sun's glare and energy (in astrological circles, this is referred to as "Mercury combust Sun").

Usually, Mercury in Aquarius expresses its visionary message for social justice and equality. In this Leo Full Moon lunation, that message turns inward due to the Sun's overwhelming and glaring influence. The Sun (ruler of Leo) provides the inner voice for Mercury. It says "what is it that you really want for this world? What would make your heart sing with joy and passion?

The quincunx (paradox) between Mercury/Sun and retrograde Mars in Virgo takes this question even deeper, encouraging you to take a step back and closely examine the details (Virgo) of how you plan your life: whether alignment exists between your heart (Leo) and your head (Aquarius) in your daily activities and responsibilities, and how to strengthen this inward synergy.

Adding to the mix, the other quincunx of Venus in Pisces and Saturn in Libra are a true odd couple this Leo Full Moon lunation. Venus desires in Piscean fashion to see the beauty in everything. By contrast, retrograde Saturn demands discernment and integrity when in relationship with others. As both are at the very end degree of their respective astrological signs, a higher vibration of clarity and purpose on your part is required to balance and harmonize these otherwise divergent energies in the realm of relationship.

Lastly, the sextile between Jupiter in Taurus and Chiron/Neptune in Pisces, represents your connection to nature and your body. Chiron's close association with Neptune points to a path for healing the environmental harm inflicted on our natural world, and in turn, our physical body. This healing is heart-driven and potent in its expression and intensity.

Note: 8 hours after Full Moon, Venus moves into Aries creating a conjunction with Uranus and square with Pluto between February 9th and 15th. Given Uranus' unexpected tendencies, and Pluto's intense expression, I suggest discernment before acting on impulses (Aries).

The above Full Moon lunation aspects and related questions serve as a backdrop for Neptune's monumental return to its home sign of Pisces
.

Neptune into Pisces
On February 3rd, Neptune returned to its home sign Pisces. Except for last year's brief 4 month stay in Pisces, Neptune last moved through this familiar realm of "oneness" between 1847 and 1862. Now, it has moved solidly into its home sign, remaining there for the next 15 to 16 years.

The song "I See You" by Leona Lewis from James Cameron's movie Avatar is a very good example that speaks to this evolving Neptunian energy; a desire to merge into the oneness of life and its natural elements, as in the dream world of Pandora (note: click on the small triangle for the video as the large arrow seems inactive).

During this Neptunian time, everything mysterious and unknown will be amplified throughout the human consciousness, filling our conversations, experiences and choices with strong emotions, deep feelings and empathic connections. These water-like expressions will be most prominent in the media realms of imagery and film. And to start things off with a strong water-like surge, James Cameron's epic reenactment of Titanic will be re-released this April in 3D IMAX format.

Indicators of Neptune in Pisces over next 15 years:
- a rise in spirituality with a corresponding decline in materiality
- expansion in music, art, and imagery, including holographic expressions
- heightened desire for transformation and renewal of the global community
- amplification of the dream and meditation states
- desire to reconnect with nature in its pristine state
- purification of the environment through major water events
- the birth of the "empathic children"
- telepathic connections between highly sensitive beings
- greater sensitivity to everyone and everything, i.e. compassionate service
- shadow tendencies of delusion, cults, drugs and fantasy overwhelm.

During its initial 4 month stay in Pisces last year, significant water related events occurred around the world, including epic flooding in China, Thailand, the Mississippi and Missouri River basins, and New England, especially Vermont. By contrast, extreme drought conditions occurred in East Africa and across the US South and Southwest, including Texas. And more similar events are on the way, e.g. substantial snowfall occurred in the Colorado Front Range near Denver, east through Nebraska and Kansas on the day Neptune returned to Pisces.

While water events and purification of the natural world are characteristics of Neptune in Pisces, the spiritual and visual side of Neptune are equally significant. As I wrote in my Astrology Update for 2012, “historical records of Neptune/Pisces suggest a huge wave of renewed spirituality, imagery, music and deeper connection to the natural elements await us over the next 16 years or so. "Dream BIG" says Neptune. Dream as you have never dreamed before. See and imagine a world of grace, creative expression and harmonious flow.

Neptune’s return to Pisces ushers in perhaps an alternative to the intense polarization of Uranus versus Pluto (thru 2015) now occurring world-wide. Perhaps, this very different vibration provides the inner grace to elevate our vibration to a higher cause or energetic reality. Only time will tell how we as humans respond to this Universal invitation of grace and connection.

Conclusion

The evolving human race stands at the precipice of enormous shifts, while attempting to rebalance itself in these rapidly on-going energy waves. Human population today exceeds 7 Billion (that's 7,000,000,000+) and rapidly growing at the rate of over 100 million per year. Unprecedented stress is being placed on the natural world to sustain and feed this global juggernaut. Something has to give or shift. Perhaps a  Piscean merging of consciousness is in the offing, one that Peter Russell has championed since the early 80's under the banner of "the Global Brain"?

The next New Moon on February 21st is in the sign of Pisces. On that day, the Sun and Moon are positioned exactly between Chiron and Neptune with Mercury not too far away. As such, the ethers over the coming 4 weeks are filled with water related energy. This is a perfect time for connecting deeper into your spiritual core, paying attention to your dreams, being compassionate, and most importantly being present to the changes unfolding around you.

Beginning on the 9th of this month, I travel to Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles offering astrology presentations about Neptune in Pisces, an Interactive Astrology class in Los Angeles, and private astrology consultations in all locations. Specifics may be found here. Please forward this link on to family and friends in those locales. This is a optimum time to prepare yourself for the next steps in your evolution. For my inner journey, I will be attending the Network Transformational Gate in Denver.

Please add your comments below. May you be captivated and enthralled by the beauty of the world around you.

  1. What occured between 1847 and 1862 that would correspond to the previous Neptune in Pisces transit? My initial thoughts were how the anti-slavery sentimnet culminating in the Emancipation Proclamation led to the Civl War and how Marx's Communist Manifesto begam the Socialist movement.

  2. Good additions, Mike.

Also, Darwin espoused his "evolutionary theory in the late 1850's which challenged the existing religious beliefs concerning the evolution of life on the planet. Part of Neptune in Pisces is the dissolving of old forms to make way for something new or unexpected.

One other important note: the astrological position of the social (Jupiter/Saturn) and other transpersonal (Uranus/Pluto) planetary energies is key to understanding the "potential" of Neptune's effect here. e.g. Pluto remaining in Capricorn through 2023, Saturn's movement later this year into Scorpio, Jupiter in Gemini in late 2012 into 2013, and Uranus through Aries all will add their vibration and influences to this evolving mythos over the next 2 years.

By contrast, in the late 1850's Pluto moved into Taurus to join Uranus (earth energy), which would mirror/influence Darwin's revolutionary perspective of how life evolved, as well as exploring this sacred cauldron from which all life emerged.

  3. I've seen The Artist, and it is a wonderful movie that speaks miles of "doing away with the old to make way for the new"! I highly suggest this movie!

Thank you Gemini Awakening, yet again!

  4. Saturn turned retrograde just hours before this Full Moon. Because of the Venus/Saturn "quincunx" I mentioned in this article, more emphasis is given to Saturn here due to this reversal.

When Saturn retrogrades, it provides an opportunity to examine the lessons experienced during its recent direct motion (June 12, 2011 to Feb 7, 2012). In Libra, those lessons are about "discernment in relationships". Do you "feel used by others", and/or are you "using others" in the realm of relationships? Sometimes relationships have run their course and are ready to end. Perpetuating a relationship that is done puts you in Saturn's spotlight. This retrograde period provides opportunity to examine within your heart (Leo Full Moon) answers and resolution to those questions.

Saturn retrogrades back to 23 Libra by June 24th. Then, it begins its direct motion ultimately crossing into Scorpio in early October for its 1st visit there since 1983.
