Autumn Equinox: Resetting the Balance of Power

"Good ideas alter the power balance in relationships, that is why good ideas are always initially resisted...." Hugh Macleod, Consultant

Equal day, equal night. Equinox is a time of balance as the Sun now moves into the Zodiac sign of Libra on September 22 at 5:09 pm HST, 8:09 pm on the West Coast, 3:09 AM on the 23rd, Universal Time. 6 hours later at 11:17 pm HST, the harvest Full Moon occurs. Here's the Equinox chart:

Libra is a Cardinal sign and the first sign of Fall in the northern hemisphere.  The cardinal Zodiac signs each mark the beginning of a new season, Aries Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. As the Sun first enters the cardinal signs during equinox and solstice season it adds extra fuel to the cosmic collective. Because Pluto is now in early degrees Capricorn squaring serious Saturn in early Libra, the Sun provides extra fuel to this intense duo for empowering and restructuring relationships of all kinds.

To put this into more animated terms, here's Kathryn, our very own MzZodiac providing the 411 on this day of balance.

This short video blog represents a new direction for how we are sharing astrological information with our readership. Our intention is to share information that's entertaining, timely, and informative. This initiative paves the wave for future instructional videos nominally priced for anyone desiring to deepen their understanding of astrology.  September and October 2010 - Two Aries full moons!

This month's Full Moon occurs at 0 degrees Aries. This places the Moon within the intense Cardinal energy vibration between Pluto in early degrees of Capricorn and Saturn in Libra. Hence, a challenging vibration awaits us. Here's the Full Moon chart:

While there are 12 months in a year, there are actually 13 moon cycles. In 2010 this translates into two Aries Full Moons. The extra Aries energy this year is a reminder to assert our individuality and follow our creative impulses. As Moon energy affects fluids, your emotional state becomes amplified. In some cases a beneficial Moon can animate and excite you. Yet, in the current challenging position with Pluto and Saturn, feelings of moodiness and irritation may easily arise.

As the Moon brings its silvery light on to this Saturn/Pluto dynamic, a potent T-square occurs. This mirrors the 2010 Cardinal Climax energy of this past summer. T-Squares are balance points (like a see-saw) requiring equal contribution and cooperation from its component parts.

This particular balance point resides with Pluto. Given Pluto's transformational urges, sharp swings between your individuated (Aries) and relationship (Libra) needs take center stage. As this occurs near an Equinox point, the tone/theme extends over the entire Autumn season. Here, the virtues of compassion, listening and breathing are effective strategies in your relationship interactions with others, especially challenging ones.

Further, Saturn has now passed the degree point where it moved retrograde last January. This was Saturn's 1st pass through Libra, focusing on what requires restructuring in the realm of relationship.

In its second phase in Libra (reaching by January its next retrograde point at 17 degrees), the energy is ripe for transformation occurring in 2011 within all your significant relationships.

Rising with the Full Moon is brilliant Jupiter. This expansive energy is making the closest pass to Earth since 1963 through 2023. Its brilliance in the evening sky is even more spectacular in a telescope. Hovering nearby for the telescope is aquamarine Uranus. Energetically, this combo in Pisces adds a quirky expansive vibration to the Full Moon passage. Unexpected surprises, especially in the dream state of Pisces, are quite possible. More information about this pairing may be found in our recent blog entry "Insanity meets Inspiration".

Coming Astrological Events Autumn 2010:
- next New Moon in Libra Oct 7 focuses on communication in relationships
- the next Full Moon on October 22 is at the very end degrees of Aries
- Venus moves retrograde in Scorpio/Libra starting October 8th thru Nov. 18th
- Pluto conjoins the North Node of the Moon in November
- Mercury Retrograde in December in the signs of Capricorn/Sagittarius
- Total Lunar Eclipse on the Winter Solstice

We'll cover the above astrological events and more in future blogs and short videos. The potency of these times requires new ways of aligning with and integrating these waves of energy and change. In the short term, this Autumn season's vibration provides a framework for expressing the passion of your individuality and creating more harmony in your relationships.
