Libra New Moon - Creating a New Balance

"Please remember as you continue on your quest for balance, happiness, inner peace, and lack of suffering, that everything in Nature goes through cycles… the ebbs and flows that allow us to experience the ecstasy of contrast. Without the constant sway, we would feel nothing at all. Neither extreme is sustainable indefinitely; and as the pendulum swings, we are renewed." Anonymous

On October 7th, the Moon completes its 28.5 day cycle, meeting the Sun at 14 degrees Libra. New Moon time in Hawaii is at 8:44 am (11:44 a on the West Coast; 6:44 pm Universal Time; and 3:44 am on the 8th in Japan).
Here, the familiar cycle of a New Moon leading to the Full Moon in its opposite sign is reestablished after 15 months of the reverse (Full Moon leading to the New Moon in the opposite sign). This more familiar pattern supports creative endeavors initiated at the New Moon, then reaching fulfillment at the ensuing Full Moon. This more familiar cycle continues for the next 20 months.

New Moon: Libra qualities  - air sign: relationships and companionship, beauty, artistry, curiosity, harmony and diplomacy, This particular New Moon adds to the "pairs effect" discussed in our last blog entry, upping the number of pair conjunctions to 5 and changing the mix slightly.

The 5 pairs today are Sun/Moon in Libra, Jupiter/Uranus in Pisces, Chiron/Neptune in Aquarius, Venus/Mars in Scorpio and Mercury/Saturn in Libra. I must say this chart is not only unusual because of the pairings, but also because there is very little interaction between the chart aspects.  This mostly "non-aspected" vibration tends to amplify the energy of the Sun/Moon combination.

Here's the chart:

The only major aspect seen above is the square between Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn/Mercury in Libra further illustrated here to the right.

This square highlights a challenge around your inner authority versus that of others. Because Mercury (planet of communication) positions next to Saturn (ruler of Capricorn and master of structure/limitations), there is an implied stress factor around how you express yourself in relationships, or even how you may take on the role of "peacemaker" to literally do the Libran thing and "keep the peace at all cost". The square to Pluto in Capricorn creates critical tension for bringing any inconsistencies to the surface. Remember, Pluto, ruler of Scorpio and the underworld, melts old thought forms and structures to allow for new expression and direciton.

This theme prevails through the next two weeks leading up to October 22 and the second of the two Aries Full Moons. Use this time to reestablish your inner authority with others. Given the Saturn/Mercury combo of this New Moon cycle, clarity and self-integrity will be on the front burner in the relationship zone.

In the meantime, Venus begins its 5 week retrograde today. Stay tuned for our next video blog about this potent cycle, coming soon.

  1. Sorry Starman, while I am aware that astrologers differ on the acceptable orb which can be applied to the planets when considering an aspect, I find the 5 and 6 degrees considered here to be a stretch at best. I'd prefer your assessment of this new moon as if no aspects applied. Still, I look forward to your writings. Thanks.

  2. I’m so glad you’re back to regular blog style! It allows me to scan if I don’t have much time and go back later for a deeper read. The pod casts were fun but I’d miss them or only have sit down time after the month was up... I like the read it style much better!

  3. Hi Michael

thanks for the feedback and the follow.

Yes, it is a wide square, however, IMO (and that of other astrologers I know) still on the margins of orb.

Given Saturn/Mercury movement across the Cardinal Climax Zone, I decided the dynamic was important enough to include in the analysis, especially as it points to an on-going theme of Saturn/Pluto and how our relationships are structured. Joseph
