Sagittarius Full Moon June 15: The Courageous Quest

"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.” Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642)

“Before God we are equally wise and equally foolish.”
Albert Einstein

"Based on the laws of physics, the effect on temperature of man's contribution to atmospheric CO2 levels is minuscule and indiscernible from the natural variability caused in large part by changes in solar energy output."
Robert Scotto, Atmospheric Scientist

Breaking News!!!! Just yesterday, astrophysicist revealed potential life changing information (how timely for the eclipse) about the current and next Solar cycle. In true out of the blue Uranian fashion, the anticipated increase in Sunspot activity in the coming Solar 25 cycle is now considered incorrect. Solar data now shows the Sun's internal activity moving in the opposite direction, towards hibernation. This has come as quite a surprise (and significant at that) to the astronomical community.

A very similar scenario played out in the mid 17th Century. Then, a very quiet Sun (less energy output) led to a "Little Ice Age" during the period 1645 - 1715. During those 70 years, planet Earth experienced very harsh and longer winters. Uncertain in this newly unfolding solar scenario is whether excessive carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (global warming) is sufficient to temporarily offset any potential global temperature drop over the coming decades. Given the Uranian nature of the announcement, I'd say there are a number of wild cards yet to be revealed.

The potent and building Uranus in Aries square with Pluto in Capricorn cycle involves new (Aries) and unexpected astronomical influences (Uranus) impacting our existing organized structures (Capricorn). While the exact 7 squares do not take place until 2012-2015, the energy is on the rise, and as the current solar information shows, officially here. In short, we have now entered the realm of "pay attention time".

Meanwhile, back in the cosmic playground we call the Solar System, the Moon today moved into its opposition with the Sun. This is the last Full Moon of the current season, coming 6 days before the Solstice. Again, similar to last December, a major lunar eclipse occurs near the Solstice Point. Hence, the energy or theme of this eclipse is carried into the coming season and its various cycles.

The type of a lunar eclipse (partial or total) depends on how close the Full Moon positions to the lunar node (where the orbital planes of the Earth and Moon meet). Since this Full Moon positions less than a degree away from the lunar node, the Moon not only triggers a total eclipse, but one that travels through the deepest part of the Earth’s crimson shadow. This makes for a darker lunar appearance, as well as a longer total phase in the Earth’s shadow. Metaphorically and energetically this creates a more intense cycle. That a partial solar eclipse follows at the New Moon in two weeks gives added weight to the current cycle. In other words big changes are on the agenda for the coming year.

Additional background information about this month’s 3 eclipses, and their potential short and long term effects may be found in our previous blog entry: June Eclipses: Dancing with the Shadows.

Full Moon occurs at 24 degrees Sagittarius at 10:14 AM on Wednesday, June 15th in Hawaii, 1:14 pm on the West Coast, 8:14 PM, GMT, and on the 16th  just after Midnight in Western Russia and Iran, 1:14 am in India, 5:14 AM in Japan and east to the International Date Line. Those locales fortunate to see the Moon in the evening, night or predawn sky will see part or all of the Total Eclipse.

Except for tropical latitudes, the late season spring Moon is quite low in the Northern Hemisphere’s southern sky, and rides very high in the the Southern Hemisphere’s northern sky. These will be the lowest/highest Full Moon’s in 2011 due to the close proximity to the solstice date.

This particular Full Moon carries the strong polarity energy of Sagittarius and Gemini. These opposing astrological signs are two sides of the same coin. And, as implied above, the eclipse effect accentuates or adds intensity to this polarity.

Here is the Full Moon chart

In part, Gemini’s air element is an information junkie of sorts, always seeking more and more content in its quest to learn and understand. And it wants to do this in playful ways. By contrast, Sagittarius is much more serious, desiring to know the inner truth through life's experiences. Ruled by Jupiter, Sagittarius’ fire element carries an air of optimism and adventure “to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

Yet, this fearlessness can appear quite intense to a Gemini type who would prefer to move where the wind playfully dictates. From a Sagittarian’s eye, Gemini’s flighty ways would seem ungrounded, irresponsible and unfocused.

Regardless of the perspective, these two energies need each other to obtain what they individually seek. A great example of this polarity is seen in a Star Trek episode called “Tapestry”. Here, Captain Picard, through a death experience, is given the opportunity to go back in time and rectify his irresponsible behavior (Gemini) as a youth that led to his "death" later in life. The short of it: he realizes with new awareness his Gemini behavior was a critical catalyst for his later life Sagittarian-like passion and zeal.

Other Full Moon Dynamics: at this Full Moon:

- Sun (1) in Gemini is joined by Mercury (2)  and the South Lunar Node (3).

As Gemini’s natural ruler, Mercury adds additional Gemini fuel to the mix. This tips the scales decidedly toward the Gemini side of the polarity. Hence, it may seem far easier to mentally explore facts and information being provided from the Cosmos, instead of energetically connecting on a soul level to the eclipse’s vibration. And the Cosmos is sharing quite a bit. The Moon positions very close to the Galactic Center point at 26 degrees Sagittarius. Hence, the Moon’s emotionally based archetypal filter acts as a transmission point for energy emanating from the direction of our Galaxy’s heart. Yesterday's solar activity information may be an example of input from Galactic Center.

If there were ever a time to pay attention to your dream state, this is the day. With the Moon traveling unusually deep into the center of the Earth’s shadow (umbra), the full vibrational transmission from Galactic Center gets imbued into the Earth’s atmospheric cloak, and into our psyches. Because of the depth of the shadow, this is a day to go inward and examine what gifts you are ready to share in the coming season. Are these gifts passionate to you? Are you ready to courageously expand your presence and abilities with others?

Other Eclipse dynamics: the following archetypal aspects are layered into the eclipse’s theme of spontaneity and passion - diagram on the left:

1 - Venus - archetype of beauty
2-  Chiron - healing vibration
3 - Uranus - quick change, surprises
4 - Neptune - vision and delusion
5 - Pluto - power and transformation

Cycles:
(6) Venus, positions in early degrees of Gemini, creating a square or 90 degree angle with Chiron and Neptune in Pisces (realm of the Soul)

(7) Venus also creates a quincunx (7) (150 degree awkward angle) to Pluto in Capricorn (form/structure).

(8) Meanwhile, Uranus is at its closest by degree to Pluto this year; actively building to its potent 7 exact squares with Pluto starting next year and through 2015.

The above 3 cycles are hard/challenging, and life transforming angles. As Venus moves through the zodiac it carries its Scorpio retrograde theme created last Fall into each sign. Now, as Venus moves through playful Gemini, Scorpio's theme of "life force" is infused into this realm of learning and connecting.

Here in Gemini, Venus encounters Pluto (Scorpio's ruler) bringing to awareness the paternal or authoritative energy (Capricorn) experienced in one's youth (Gemini). Hence, an emotional trigger is activated around painful childhood experiences adversely affecting one’s sensitivity (Pisces traits) and playful approach to life in later years.

Summarizing these 3 cycles: visualize a rambunctious, playful, young child within yourself. This child is very sensitive and attuned to the natural surroundings. One day, you are suddenly (Uranus) told with some degree of energetic force (Scorpio) to start “behaving”, and/or “act responsibly” (Capricorn). This eclipse offers the potential of returning to wholeness (healing) the playful dynamics your inner child expressed innocently and passionately before life started to feel heavy and responsible. Remember, eclipse energy tends to resurrect deeper issues so they can be actively resolved over the ensuing 6 months.  The bell has sounded!

The presence of strong Taurus energy in the eclipse chart (Jupiter and Mars) points to the physical body where this resolution takes place. As such, this eclipse can be physically challenging (active tension), especially in the body parts ruled by Gemini, Aries, Pisces and Capricorn. Note: "active tension" = areas of energy available for resolution; by contrast "passive tension" = stored body tension not easily accessible.

Saturn...Saturn...Saturn: Lastly, 3 days ago, Saturn reached its direct motion point at 10 degrees Libra, ending its near 5 month retrograde. When any planet nears either its retrograde or direct motion point, a slowing of the energy occurs. This "slowing" amplifies the effect, usually over a week for the inner planets and a month or two for the outer planets. Hence, this direct motion effect may amplify unresolved relationship (Libra) challenges over the coming 2 months or so.

Saturn’s inward quest since late January has been to re-examine and restructure intimate, friend and work relationships. This energy now shifts into a more active (direct) vibration. In the light of this eclipsed Moon, you are encouraged to take action in the coming days, bringing renewed vitality and playfulness to your connections with others, invite new, fulfilling relationships into your life, and perhaps in some instances, creating closure with those relationships feeling stagnant or "done".

  2. Hi Audrey

    Long time...no see....

Yes, "crazy update", but then again how else could it be for this unpredictable Gemini vibe. :)

  3. Hi Joseph,
Since you gave a link to the latest astrological sun news, I thought you'd find this information important as the "Little Ice Age" referred to is missing some pretty critical data: http://tinyurl.com/3djvk35

    Aloha from the Mainland!

  4. Thanks Ariane for posting the link.

Yes, not surprisingly, a wide range of information on both sides of the issue has appeared rather quickly (Uranus) in response to the Hibernation announcement. As I mention, there are more Uranian wildcards to come.

As I have shared with others "as the Sun goes, so does every other member of the Solar System".

    Aloha, Joseph
