As I look out over the seemingly endless expanse of ocean and clouds below, I'm struck by the enormity and beauty of Planet Earth.
From this lofty, serene perspective, I find it hard to fathom an intense societal struggle now rages in various areas of the globe for something new...something different. Yet, the current planetary aspects continue to point distinctly in that direction, creating more and more fuel for evolutionary shift...radical change...passion...and freedom. Can you feel it?
Look back over the past 3 years and reflect how change has impacted your life and those close to you. Does this “look back” fuel a desire for returning to something familiar, tested and seemingly reliable, or add impetus for something new, uncertain, and exciting? Therein lies the polarity of choice now vividly expressed and amplified world-wide.
Aries...first zodiac sign, currently provides the high octane fuel driving this shift. This unusually strong preponderance of raw, cardinal energy, spawned in March, continues unabated through the next Full Moon in May.
Today, the Moon reaches its opposition with the Sun in Aries at 28 degrees at 4:44 pm in Hawaii. Other times for the Full Moon are 7:44 p (PDT) on the US West Coast, 10:44 p, East Coast US and after midnight on the 18th in western South America, east to the International Dateline (2:44 am GMT).
This is last of 3 consecutive super Full Moons for 2011. A super Full Moon occurs when the
Moon moves closest to the Earth at or near the time it is "full". These "closer than usual" Moons symbolically and energetically heighten our senses, focusing our energies in ways specific to the current lunar theme. In this instance, the sign of Libra points to the quality and depth of relationships in our lives, and how we co-exist as a human race on planet Earth. While the current Super Moon is not as close to the Earth as last month's Full Moon, its influence will nonetheless be noticeable, amplifying the intense aspects of this chart in the area of relationships (Libra) and individuation (Aries).
Here’s the Full Moon chart:
At the Full Moon, Venus in Pisces (1) moves into Aries on the 20th to join Uranus (2) for a week of unexpected shifts in the realm of beauty, relationships and earthly connections. Meanwhile, Mars & Mercury (3) and Jupiter (4) continue close together amplifying the desire for something new. The Sun (5) soon completes its month journey through Aries, moving into Taurus on the 19th. The replacement of Sun with Venus energies adds a somewhat softer edge to the Aries vibe, yet the intensity level continues to remain high.
This lunar period, Mercury retrograde runs the show, influencing all matters of thought and communication. The winged-messenger’s retrograde motion is now slowing considerably as it nears its direct motion point on the 23rd. In this switch from retrograde to direct motion, a noticeable slowdown in communication and information usually occurs spawning more frequent travel disruptions, intense weather effects, and apparent inertia in the realm of negotiations, completion of contracts, agreements etc. This vibe continues through early May. On the plus side of the equation, direct motion is a green light for putting into play creative endeavors developed over the past month. Ready, get set....
Adding more fuel to the above, Mercury's movement now triggers a wide T-square between Pluto in Capricorn (1), a strong Mercury/Mars/Jupiter combination in Aries (2) opposing Saturn in Libra (3). T-squares are balancing points, much like the fulcrum on a see-saw. With Pluto assuming this middle position, reducing or melting down barriers to conscious, co-creative relationships will be in play. This paves the way for new alliances.
This particular T-square carries a similar tone to the powerful Cardinal T-square of last summer. It also is a harbinger of a potent T-square starting to build between Uranus, Pluto and Saturn, which culminates in June and doesn't ease up until early July. More on this in a future blog.
For the moment, pay attention to significant, new developments in the political (Capricorn), diplomatic (Libra), economic (Capricorn), and scientific (Uranus in Aries) realms. Powerful events here will be good indicators about the nature of what is building in the conscious field through this Summer and into 2012.
At the polarity points of the current T-square (illustrated above), Mercury (2) (in retrograde until the 23rd) triggers an intense (expansive Jupiter influenced) conversation between Mars (2) (initiating something new or radical, throwing caution to the wind) and Saturn in Libra (3) (stability, conservative approach, return to something familiar). One analogy would be the rivalry between the young warrior (Mars) and the seasoned veteran (Saturn). This vibration is evident on the world stage in areas of the Middle East and Africa, such as Libya, Syria, Ivory Coast, Bahrain, Iraq, etc. It’s also evident in the US Congress, as newly elected Tea Party activist attempt to exert their political influence with incumbent elected officials.
While never an easy energetic form, this geometric dynamic represents the latest version of an on-going world-wide theme of "change vs stability" initiated by the Uranus and Saturn oppositions starting in late 2008 (Election Day in the USA to be precise). And it will not be denied, dampened, or ignored. This epic struggle continues to increase the critical tension evident throughout the world on many levels.
Last Summer, Astrologer Steven Forest, posed the questions "when is it going to hurt enough?" "When is humanity going to say 'enough' to the painful ways the human race treat each other and the Earth?" Ultimately, this critical tension of "enough" reaches a boiling point, triggering a substantive shift in the human consciousness. By 2015, I expect we'll have experienced that magical "enough" moment. However, defining now the exact nature of this shift is in my opinion a futile exercise. Better to experience the "now moment", rather than predict its outcome.
As an astrologer, I observe how the astrological cycles of 2000 - 2015 point to major transformative, life changing shifts on the macro and micro scales. This is an organic process of amazing depth and rapid shift. Its impact is readily evident in world events, as well as in the lives of clients and friends. Earth changing events, such as the recent Japanese earthquake with tsunami waves and nuclear meltdown, vast oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, social unrest/rebellion in the Middle East, and world-wide economic stresses are potent big picture harbingers of the evolutionary shift now sweeping the globe. Equally profound are the inner tsunami waves sweeping through individual lives.
Further, there is an important vein of sensitivity being added to this current vibration thanks to the trans-generational energy of Neptune (1). Just after the last New Moon, Neptune moved into its home sign of Pisces for the first time since 1847-62. Through August 5th, Neptune conjuncts the healing vibration of Chiron (2). Their recent 2009-10 joining in Aquarius provided the fuel for freedom, social justice and greater autonomy. Now in transcendent Pisces, this combo adds a tremendous deepening and expansion to your inner awakening and evolving soul.
Neptune/Chiron in Pisces encourages you over the next several lunar cycles to pay attention to your dreams. Attune to what inspires, illuminates and motivates you. Invite and welcome messages from the “unknown”...the realm beyond the beyond. Take time to reflect on what feeds your soul. Make conscious choices now about how you want to participate in this evolving mythos. In all respects, allow the building critical tension to be a rich fuel for your spirit, going beyond what your mind thinks is seemingly impossible.Take a leap of faith or two, or....
The Cicero quote in the beginning of this blog reminds us how societal themes and challenges have a way of recurring...and recurring...and recurring over time and generations. Our seemingly generous Universe continues to provide opportunities to "get it right". In its current rendition, how we choose to respond mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually to these epic challenges will define for generations to come the quality of our evolutionary growth and conscious participation in this on-going, co-creative human experiment.
In synchronicity with these shifts, the fuel of this Full Moon provides the impetus to clarify and realign relationships in your life in integrity and congruency with your highest intent and purpose for this phase of your life journey. It also reminds you life is about change and re-balancing....We are part of a cosmic, galactic sea of awareness, connected to and part of "The All" on every possible level of consciousness. May your life choices, through the co-creative expression of your gifts and talents, serve you in the highest way as you continue to serve the highest good of humanity.
Happy Full Moon...ready, set.....

Hey Joseph,
ReplyDeleteYour commitment to a post that has depth and breadth is remarkable. I deeply admire your intellectual prowess with accessible and vivid language, and I wait for these new moon/full moon posts in alignment with a new Toltec new moon/full moon practice I've begun. Yours is the first astrological commentary that has ever resonated, as usually I find them too predictable and generalized (even w/ specifics- go figure!).
Thank you.
