Virgo Full Moon March 19: Awakening a Deeper Service to Humanity

Virgo Full Moon comes to light on March 19th at 8:10 am in Hawaii, 11:10 PDT, 2:10 pm EDT, 6:10 pm Greenwich Mean Time, It occurs on the 20th in India and east to the International Date Line. This is the closest (Perigee) Full Moon of 2011, and the closest to Earth in the past 18 years. Hence, the Moon, especially when rising or setting may seem quite larger than usual.

Of late, the Internet and Social Sites have been abuzz about this Full Moon's immediate potential effect on Earth changing dynamics. In particular, the "big one" occurring soon in California has been high on the speculation charts. While this Moon is larger than usual, there exists no direct correlation between a "Super Full Moon" and extreme geological or meteorological events. Further, I see nothing in the chart that would portend such a specific, cataclysmic event being imminent, i.e. on the Full Moon.

Beyond the Full Moon, Mars' entry into Aries on April 1st is where the big astrological action takes place. At that time, Mars' aggressive/assertive energy meets up with Uranus (surprising changes) for a week of intense influences. Whether this translates into significant Earth changes remains uncertain. From a wider perspective, as Pluto is the higher-octave of Mars, I consider Mars' entry into Aries as a good indicator of the flavor/tone when Uranus begins its series of 7 squares with Pluto beginning in 2012.

Remember, Astrology explores cycles and trends as an indicator and guide for shifts in archetypes and society's evolving mythos. While it can be used "predicatively", its true power lies in the realm of potential and opportunity. 

Back to the Full Moon:

This Full Moon occurs at the last degree of Virgo. Late degree Full Moons are considered "mastery" moons, i.e. 20 degree+ in the 30 degrees of a sign indicate a higher vibration and intention. On this Full Moon, we arrive at the last in a series of 6 consecutive late degree Full Moons. This series began last October with the Aries Full Moon. Hence, the Aries theme of "new" or "innovative" weaves its way into this Full Moon's dynamic. Specific to Virgo, this mastery theme points to initiating a new level of sacred work and healing service to humanity. Further, Virgo provides the framework for organizing the details in order to serve others in new and innovative ways.

Also, due to its late degree position, this Full Moon carries the vibration of the next zodiac signs, much like a seed waiting to germinate. This brings the Aries/Libra vibration into the mix. Given the building Aries energy in the field over the past week, with much more to come over the next several weeks, know the ethers are ripe for spontaneous, unexpected change in your life through new alliances and relationships. Such newness can trigger tension/fear patterns.

In particular to the Full Moon chart:

1. The Full Moon occurs very close to the Vernal Equinox, which is on the 20th for most of the world. Here, Uranus at the 0 degrees Aries equinox point has a strong, unpredictable influence on the Sun/Moon theme. "Quickly expect the unexpected" is the Uranian theme in Aries. My astrologer friend Cayelin Castell of Shamanic Astrology points out this is the first time in 335 years the Sun entering Aries meets Uranus at the same degree. Symbolically, this is a prime indicator the traditional ways of life as we know it are rapidly coming to a close.

2. Mercury (communication) and Jupiter (expansion) are opposite Saturn (structure/restraint) in Libra on the Full Moon. This adds its own tension about your individuated needs versus the needs of your relationships.

3. The Sun/Moon are directly square the Moon's nodes, one of which sits at Galactic Center (1). This points to an emerging global realignment of direction and focus in attunement with greater galactic forces and higher intention (see chart below).

4. Ceres (nurturing vibe) conjoins Neptune in late degree Aquarius adding more content to the evolving Neptune theme of peace and harmony in an evolving Aquarian world. I'll explore Neptune's entrance into Pisces (it's natural sign) in a coming Blog.

To summarize, we stand at the threshold of a new world. On a day-to-day basis, the shifts/changes now taking place may seem absurdly extreme. Yet, in a broader context, these disruptive patterns give way to grander themes of world harmony and meaningful connection. As always, maintaining clarity and strength, especially on a physical level is paramount to surfing the bigger shifts taking place. Nurturing of self implies the ability to offer the same to others.

As I mentioned, next week I'll write in more detail about the strong Aries vibe now unfolding in the realms of Mars' and Mercury.
